3 top benefits of walking.
The wonder of walking
We all the know the beautiful benefits of walking, moving our bodies, taking in the sights and sounds around us.
What has this got to do with a professional organisers blog? ... I will explain why.
What we have, inside our homes, our belongings our furniture, what we display on our walls and what is inside of our cupboards and drawers affects our mood. We talk about decluttering the space but what about decluttering our minds.
Walking can do just that it’s takes us out of that space and allows a download of thought to occur.
For me this reflective time walking allows me to concentrate on where I am placing my feet. Usually one in front of the other but I have been known to trip up on fresh air more than not!
It allows me to take in the fresh air, the sights sounds and smells and feel the benefits in my body, as a consequence feeling more alive.
We live our lives so connected all the time whether it to our mobile device or laptop or computer. It’s so easy to just find an instant answer on our devices to any questions.
But what if we pondered on a subject, spent time in wonderment?
Allowing for our own natural curiosity and thought pattern to flow.
I spent many years in education, a quarter of a century to be exact. The latter years became extremely tough on my wellbeing.
Despite my morning meditations, affirmations and podcasts on the way to work my intentions of having a great day were often shattered by 9.08am.
BUT that didn’t mean to say that that particular day could not be salvageable.
What really kept me going was the clock striking midday.. not midnight, sorry cinders!
The trainers would be on and the park stomp would begin.
The speed in my pace, the beautiful park surroundings come rain or shine, instantly made me feel so much better.
Making it my mission to smile at as many strangers as I could. Knowing that as difficult as my external surroundings were. Internally that connection to nature made me feel more grounded.
So next time your head feels like it’s about to blow off and the clutter and chaos of your thoughts are driving you crazy. Get outside !
Pound the pavements or the fields or the lanes.
Listen to the thoughts that your mind downloads. Some of my best writing and ideas comes from my walks.
Smile at strangers and know that you could possibly have made their day.
What a beautiful thought that is.
