It is often described as ‘a process of unlocking a person’s potential, to maximise their own performance’. Coaching encourages people to learn, develop and grow, rather than teaching them how to do it.
Trained coaches are experts at using questions and techniques to challenge, motivate and encourage clients to find their own solutions.
How I work
When working with clients, I always start with an initial assessment to see where they are in their lives. Clients generally come to me for help improving a particular area of their life, but often discover something else that would be far more beneficial as a first fix.
The client drives the session using their answers to my questions as the basis for change. I help them unlock those answers so that we can set goals to move forward.
Setting boundaries
I’m a big fan of boundaries. At their very core, boundaries are the way we teach others to treat us. Boundaries affect every single area of our lives and when actioned successfully, can create profound, positive change. In the past I have allowed friendships and relationships to continue to be unhealthy for both parties, far longer than they needed to be. But since setting boundaries, I rarely have internal conflict around other’s behaviours, or my feelings towards them. We address any challenges that come up with honesty and integrity.
